Maggie Rogers Joins Phoebe Bridgers for a Cover of "Iris" by the Goo Goo Dolls
As we anxiously awaited the election results, Phoebe Bridgers tweeted that if her choice candidate won, she would release a cover of "Iris" by the Goo Goo Dolls. Yesterday, fans were ecstatic to see that she recruited Maggie Rogers for the release as she tweeted the link to the bandcamp download of the promised release.
The cover is a stripped, acoustic version of the 1998 release - an elegantly plucked acoustic guitar drives the track while a soft violin and mandolin embellish it. Each artist takes a verse, and Rogers sings with Bridgers for the harmonies on the chorus. The two artists are a vocal match made in heaven, effortlessly bringing a folky, melancholy feeling to the late 90's alt-rock release.
Bridgers recently announced that she's working on a new EP of remakes of songs from her most recent album, Punisher. For now, her "Iris" cover is available to stream and download on BandCamp only, and all proceeds will benefit Stacey Abrams' voting rights group Fair Fight - you can name your price for the download.
