EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH DAVID AUSTIN
What was it that sparked your love and passion for music?
My parents wanted my brother and I to take music lessons from a young age. I started guitar and drums and fell in love with it. I also loved listening to the radio.
What do you feel is unique about you and your music?
I just try to write about the world as I see it. I try to be vivid in my writing and paint pictures and tell stories. People won’t know the point that you want to get across without you telling them.
Name one artist that inspires you?
John Mayor, The Beatles, Dave Mathews band. These bands can do exactly what I stated before, paint vivid pictures with their music.
You’ve gained some traction on tok-tok from videos of you playing to stranger on city streets and college campuses. Was this something that one day you just decided to do naturally or was this a strategized idea where you knew it would gain online attention?
It was a little bit more of a strategized thing. I have come to terms that Tok-tok is the main way to get your music out there. Singing to strangers was a way to both get my music out there and gain some Tik-tok traction as well.
What is it that drives you to put so much effort in your career?
There is just nothing else I want to do. I have tried a lot of things and I don’t know, there’s nothing else that sparked my interest and truly love.
What is one of your favorite aspects of your music career?
I love performing and being able to connect with people. I also enjoy the writing – so really all aspects. I also enjoy the business side. You have to be able to convince people why they should like your music. I enjoy strategizing ways that I can do this.
Do you have projects coming up in the future that you could share?
I have a northeast tour coming with shows in Boston, Durham, and a show in NYC.
Single coming out January 28th. I’m also working on a whole new record.
