"Hero" Defines Contemporary and Ageless
Country music’s fresh, edgy and incomparable artist, Maren Morris released her intriguing album, “Hero” in June of 2016. This album renders must-hear songs and with her soulful sound and the perfect balance of contemporary and ageless feeling through her lyrics, nothing is stopping this incredibly talented artist from shooting to the top and staying there. Even though the album was released over a year ago, fans are still raving about her fun and catchy debut song, “My Church,” where she explains how music is her escape which many people, including myself can relate to immensely.
Not only has her music been well received by fans, but music critics like AllMusic’s, Stephen Thomas Erlewine has explained his love for Morris’ skillful styles and inventiveness as well. The New York Times’, Jon Caramanica considered the album “an outstanding country music debut.” He also added how the various styles shaped in her album not only match the digital era of today but it is “savvy enough to indicate how the future might sound.” Being well-received by critics, fans, and nearly all of Nashville, “Hero” was ranked number one in the Rolling Stone publication, “40 Best Country Albums of 2016” and number five in Entertainment Weekly’s, “The Best Country Albums of 2016.”
Maren’s upbeat, R&B and country song, “Sugar” is the first song on this album that is meant to define her and her personality spot-on. As she expressed, “I don’t want to ease anyone into this record. It’s not my personality.” In fact, from “Sugar” to her song about being in an unhealthy relationship, “Rich,” she does everything but ease her audience into this album, which is one of the many reasons as to why “Hero” is so distinctive compared to anything else in the country music world today. After the first album release, with her innovative look, ingenious style of writing and kick butt songs, Maren Morris is definitely one to keep your eye on.
